Children and Grief

Children will act differently when it comes to grief. Since a child's world is mostly a world through play, children will teach you more through their behaviors of play than through their words.

A child will mourn in little bits at a time. My child lost his dad when he was 2. He is now 9 and will tell a friend about it while they are having snack time. Then he will talk about his hockey game a sentence later. Its interesting to see how children process it. I am glad my son can talk about it when he feels the need to instead of keeping it in. This is his way of dealing with his loss one step at at time.
